California legislation pushes solar energy for homes

 
California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, announced last Friday that he is promoting new legislation to add solar power to 1 million homes by 2017. The new legislation, by state Senator Kevin Murray, plans to implement an energy plan that would require home builders to offer solar panels as an option by 2008.

The energy commission would offer rebates to home buyers that purchase solar panels in an effort to save some 2,700 megawatts of energy during peak hours, while reducing about 50 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

According to Schwarzenegger, “This proposal is about smart, innovative and environmentally friendly technologies that will help improve the state’s ability to meet peak electricity demand while cutting energy costs for homeowners for year to s come.” (Full Story)
